How it works

When

Frome Film Club screens nine films in each season, usually on the second Wednesday of each month between September and June. Screenings begin at 8.00 pm.

Where

Screenings take place at The Merlin Theatre. Venue details here

MEMBERSHIP

Annual membership runs from September and costs £30 for nine films. Although all films are open to non-members, the annual membership represents a substantial saving over individual ticket prices and guarantees you a seat. In addition, members can borrow from our library of previously-shown films.

Members’ tickets are transferable, so if you are unable to make it to the film you can pass membership card on to a friend. Tickets for non-members are available from the Merlin box office on the night, or to pre-book via their website, and you do not need to be accompanied by a member. All revenue from tickets sold on the night goes to the Merlin theatre.

We currently screen mainly from Blu-ray disc, and these and non-Blu-ray DVDs then become part of a borrowing library for members to use free of charge.

FEEDBACK

As members leave the auditorium, they can rate the film from 1 to 5 stars by placing a bean in a voting box. From this, each film is given a percentage score. These Beanometer Scores are shared with members throughout the season and can also be seen on the library page.

ABOUT

Frome Film Club was launched in 2011 as a way of bringing a more diverse range of films to a wider audience in Frome, and to increase interest in and turnout for films at the Merlin Theatre. The club is run by a small group of volunteers, with stewarding provided by the theatre.

The films on the programme are generally picked from recent releases, and our aim is to show films that have not been shown locally or had wide exposure nationally. Two committee members select the films from a long list that they have watched through the year, via festivals, screenings and trips to cinemas outside Frome.

Recent changes to the way independent films are released have made it more difficult for clubs like ours to secure screening rights in advance. For this reason we may occasionally find ourselves unable to screen the advertised film and need to make a substitution at short notice.
